A two-door, 2+2 coupé, the 924 replaced the 914 as the company's entry-level model, and was the model that finally retired the 912. In production terms, the 924 was the first porsche model powered by a water-cooled, front-mounted engine although the similarly configured 928 was designed first. The front-engine, rear wheel drive arrangement was normal for most other manufacturers, but it was unusual for porsche having previously only used mid- or rear-mounted engines of a boxer configuration, all of which had been air-cooled. It was the first porsche to be offered with a fully automatic transmission. The model was a qualified success with just over 150,000 produced (from 1977-1988), and it helped to take porsche out of financial ruin. The 924 was meant to be replaced by the closely related 944 in 1983 in the u. Market, but it returned in 1986 and continued to be produced until the 924s is a much rarer trim of the porsche 924 model. For 1987, porsche produced 8,940 924s models. 6,947 were produced in the us and 1,993 in places elsewhere. In 1984, vw decided to stop manufacturing the engine blocks used in the 2. 0 924, leaving porsche with a predicament. The 924 was considerably cheaper than its 944 stablemate, and dropping the model left porsche without an affordable entry-level option. The result was 1986's 150 bhp 924s. Porsche also decided to re-introduce the 924 to the american market with an initial price tag of under $20,000. In 1988, the 924s' final year of production, power increased to 160 bhp (119 kw; 162 ps) matching that of the previous year's le mans spec cars and the base model 944 (itself detuned by 3 bhp (2 kw; 3 ps) for 1988). This was achieved using different pistons which raised the s' compression ratio from 9. 7:1 to 10. 2:1, the knock-on effect being an increase in the octane rating, up from 91 ron to 95. Hi - hard to find with these low actual miles ! 39k miles ! Take a look at this 924s ! Its fun to drive and be seen in. She starts right up and cruises right along. Has the rare automatic transmission too. Still has the blaupunkt stereo in her as well. I absolutely love the appearance. I hope a porsche fan buys this automobile. Removable sunroof, it's hard to actually think that this porsche is 30 years old. Any used car of this age will have some detriments of some kind, so please be understanding (here comes a disclaimer) if there are any fit or finish or door dings or marks or prior improvement or renovation that may exist. There can't be many out there like mine! Almost all the ones i see are kind of abused. There are no warranties expressed and no warranties implied concerning this purchase. I even have the owners manuals, pouch, and a porsche brochure from 1987 too. I think back then porsche made a 928 944 911 924 and maybe even the 959. Collectible classic 30 years old, hope it goes to a home that appreciates this kind of car. Please note that i am not an exporter. My buy it now is only $7777. Someone will enjoy this unique classic. The 1987 911 carrera is powered by it's original, 3. 2-liter flat six engine, which looked much like that of the 3. 0 it replaced from the early 80's but was built chiefly of all-new parts. One crucial change was an improved timing chain tensioner, which had been an issue on previous models. Also new was bosch motronic fuel injection, which replaced the k-jetronic system. The engine produced 214 horsepower and came mated to a getrag g50 five-speed manual transmission and the clutch was upgraded from mechanical to hydraulic operation. This was enough to propel the carrera from 0 to 60 mph in about 5. 5 seconds. This kit was hand molded to the original, undamaged body panels. It was then resprayed in the factory white color and really looks amazing. New, 18 inch, 3 piece vip modular wheels fit perfectly under the flares and are wrapped in new continental extreme contact dws tires. The headlights were updated to h4 with 100w hella bulbs and clear custom molded, polycarbonate uv protected lenses. The interior is all original and is in great shape. The power, blue leather, bucket seats are nice and comfortable. A custom stereo was the only modification to the inside of the car. The factory, power sunroof works without issue and has new seals. We all know the air-cooled porsches are still extremely strong in the market and this 911, still retaining all of it's original equipment, while having so many custom features, really makes this a must have!!
